چکیده
the green colonial microalga, botryococcus braunii is well known for its high lipid content and has already been proposed as a renewable energy source for various aquaculture and biotechnological applications. however, due to its slow growth rate compared with other microalgae, b. braunii has not yet been used in mass culture to produce more biomass. therefore, in this study we tested different culture media to enhance the growth rate of b. braunii. b. braunii samples were collected from natural habitat, isolated and purified by repeated streaking on agar plate. the purified samples were cultured in six treatments containing different culture media with incubation conditions of ph 7.5, temperature 25±1°c under 1.2±0.2 klux light intensity with 12 hr photoperiod to observe their growth rate and morphology. the results of this study showed the highest growth rate (µ=0.20 day-1) in the autoclaved lake water with 427 colonies/ml. bold’s basal medium (bbm) and modified chu no. 10 medium showed moderate growth after 24 days of incubation. the growth rates amongst all media were significantly different (p

متن کاملStress responses of the oil-producing green microalga Botryococcus braunii Race B
Plants react to biotic and abiotic stresses with a variety of responses including the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may result in programmed cell death (PCD). The mechanisms underlying ROS production and PCD have not been well studied in microalgae. Here, we analyzed ROS accumulation, biomass accumulation, and hydrocarbon production in the colony-forming green microalga Bot...
متن کاملWavelength specificity of growth, photosynthesis, and hydrocarbon production in the oil-producing green alga Botryococcus braunii.
The effect of monochromatic light on growth, photosynthesis, and hydrocarbon production was tested in Botryococcus braunii Bot-144 (race B), which produces triterpenoid hydrocarbons. The growth was higher in order of red, blue, and green light. The color of red light-grown cells became more orange-yellow and their shape dominantly changed to grape-like with long branches. Photosynthetic carbon ...
متن کاملMicronutrient Requirements for Growth and Hydrocarbon Production in the Oil Producing Green Alga Botryococcus braunii (Chlorophyta)
The requirements of micronutrients for biomass and hydrocarbon production in Botryococcus braunii UTEX 572 were studied using response surface methodology. The concentrations of four micronutrients (iron, manganese, molybdenum, and nickel) were manipulated to achieve the best performance of B. braunii in laboratory conditions. The responses of algal biomass and hydrocarbon to the concentration ...
متن کاملComplete Chloroplast and Mitochondrial Genome Sequences of the Hydrocarbon Oil-Producing Green Microalga Botryococcus braunii Race B (Showa)
The green alga Botryococcus braunii is capable of the production and excretion of high quantities of long-chain hydrocarbons and exopolysaccharides. In this study, we present the complete plastid and mitochondrial genomes of the hydrocarbon-producing microalga Botryococcus braunii race B (Showa), with a total length of 156,498 and 129,356 bp, respectively.
